Posted on:

alfalogoThe Assisted Living Federation of America (ALFA) has given White Oak Cottages a prestigious award for its innovative design. ALFA selected White Oak Cottages as one of five projects throughout the country as a design leader for using architectural features that promote independence and honor resident choice. Assisted living projects built within the last 5 years were eligible for this competition.

White Oak Cottages, located in Westwood, MA, provide assisted living care to those with Alzheimer’s and other dementias.  The ALFA award commends White Oak Cottages for its abundance of natural light, use of colors for gentle cuing, inclusion of bay windows in every bedroom and its therapeutic gardens. The judges of the competition said that White Oak Cottages was “a good example of how to enhance a Green House plan by adding features/spaces that make it better and more supportive”.

The architects at EGA and the planning team at White Oak worked to incorporate features into the cottages to enable residents to be independent, to create a feeling of a home and to support the ability of the staff to work efficiently. Everyone associated with the construction is very pleased to receive this award and to be recognized for their efforts to promote continuing independence and a sense of home for the residents.
